Looking back on the Gouache Insect Collection launch

When I launched my Insect Art Collection in 2024, my goal was to create a campaign that showcased my gouache illustrations and directed traffic to my Etsy shop. I designed a dedicated landing page where each image linked directly to an Etsy listing, and I promoted the collection through blog posts, Pinterest graphics, and a newsletter. I also set up Google Tag Manager for the first time and created a custom Google Analytics report to track the page’s performance.

What Worked

The landing page was a great way to bring the full collection together visually and strategically. I wrote three blog posts that featured or highlighted the collection, created Pinterest Pins to drive traffic, and sent a promotional newsletter to my subscribers.

What Didn’t

Unfortunately, my Google Analytics report wasn’t formatted correctly, so I wasn’t able to track the landing page data. I was also still learning Google Tag Manager and got a bit lost in the setup. As a result, I missed out on understanding how visitors were interacting with the page and where they were coming from.

Key Takeaways

Always test your analytics setup—especially when using Google Tag Manager for the first time. Despite the tracking issues, the campaign helped me strengthen my skills in campaign planning, landing page design, email marketing, and content strategy.

Looking back, I believe creating more Pinterest graphics and blog content would have helped increase visibility. Three Pins and three blog post mentions likely weren’t enough to move the needle forward in a meaningful way.

Small Wins

Recently, I made my first Etsy sale, and both art printable downloads came from the Insect Collection! A small but meaningful win that showed me the value of keeping at it, learning as I go, and continuing to refine my strategy.
